Exciting news from Tank & Ferry Entertainment! Introducing Medicine Bow Books... featuring THE STORYTELLER

The last few months have been very busy here at Tank & Ferry Entertainment as we prepared to release our first publication under our new imprint Medicine Bow Books published through Vivid Publishing. The Storyteller is set in south Wyoming against the backdrop of impending statehood in 1890 and is the first mystery-romance by novelist Ava Pashley. We are thrilled by this latest addition to our little company of books and proud to bring to readers this highly entertaining novel.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
The power of the written word will change her town forever…
Vicki Carlisle, a young woman with ambitions that stretch far beyond the confines of her father’s prosperous ranch in the high country of southern Wyoming, writes the adventures of her suffragette-like character Evangeline and has them published in Quest & Quill. When Evangeline tackles two age-old taboos, all hell breaks loose in her home town of Feather Ridge.
The simultaneous arrival of Will Harrison, a young Montana rancher who takes up the temporary post of foreman while Vicki’s father recuperates from injury, complicates her less than simple life.
In need of a new direction after his own personal tragedy, Will finds passionate Vicki, her five beguiling sisters, a busy ranch and becoming embroiled in the town’s upheaval much more than he bargained for.
Rippling with mystery and intrigue, The Storyteller will deposit you squarely in Feather Ridge, a little town with a big secret, and won’t let you leave until the storyteller has spun her final web of words.

“Vicki is a young woman who through the sheer exuberance of her imagination is prone to exaggeration. Will, being a steady young man who is realizing that there is more to his life than what he’s known, simply cannot resist her. Their journey is about being the person you need to be, living the life you are meant to live, finding the courage and the means to make it happen. And that might just mean not doing it all on your own as you thought.”
Ava Pashley on her romantic protagonists in The Storyteller.

About the Author
Author Ava Pashley is passionate about writing and about storytelling so perhaps it is fitting that her first mystery-romance is called The Storyteller. She writes under the Medicine Bow imprint for Tank & Ferry Entertainment. This is her first mystery-romance, set in 1890 with Wyoming's imprending statehood as its historical backdrop. She says, "I find exploring the beautiful Medicine Bow Mountains and National Forest in southern Wyoming, with its natural beauty, lively history, friendly people and sense of adventure, provides profound inspiration for my writing." Look out for Ava Pashley's website coming soon.

Discussing the Research Process

This week I am talking about research for historical fiction and The Liberty & Property Legends with Kari Stevenson on her blog for WaveCloud.com.

Discussing the Research Process with Author Terri Sedmak

Thanks, Kari, for a fabulous spot on your blog!

On Goodreads - Crimson Wing

Ever wondered about the 'all in a day's work' writing process of a writer. My latest blog on Crimson Wing is a glimpse at such a day in my life. So following up from My coffee cups are milling around my computer like off-duty soldiers is: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; that's why I eat it for lunch in my pyjamas.

HEARTLAND On the Side of Angels REVIEW just in!

Heartland On the Side of Angels is the first novel in the Liberty & Property Legends by new author Terri Sedmak. She has done a superb job in setting the scene for the reader to travel back to a time in 19th Century Wyoming. An accomplished story teller, Ms. Sedmak wastes no time in her opening as she grabs the reader and immerses him into the lives of the Taylor and Keaton families. They are frontier men and women committed and devoted to their deep-rooted Alliance who will fight and die for the land and water that is rightfully theirs. The setting is Wyoming and the place is the Diamond-T ranch; the select target of 19th century land wars and water rights.

Ms. Sedmak superbly developed her male and female characters and cast a light of heroism on each of them in their rightful, respective moments. She toys with the reader to presume the obvious between Luke Taylor and Kelley Keaton; only to surprise them with the outcome.

In true frontier style, Ms. Sedmak skillfully guides the reader on a tremendous adventure. At no point in this novel is it a labor to turn the page. She artfully keeps the story moving forward through her knowledge of revolutionary American history. Without question, there is a clear balance between tragedy and celebration which makes her first novel in the series a great read.

Hands down, Terri Sedmak saved the best for last as she ends her first novel. She has left her readers with a craving for the continuation of the ongoing saga of the Liberty & Property Legends series.

On Goodreads - Crimson Wing

As yet, I have not had a great deal of time to devote to my Goodreads' dashboard. Novel writing is currently take precedence. However, I have posted my first blog which you may like to read. Here is the link:

It's rather a jaunty piece on some of those pesky writing pitfalls. I hope you enjoy it.

Terri's Blog gets a Makeover

Terri's Blog has been renovated this week. Head on over, why don't ya, and see what I've done with the place! www.terrisedmak.blogspot.com.au
Time for a change, I believe so, but my collection of travel blogs needed somewhere to show off a bit, too. Lots of pics and some videos as well.

The latest post is Author! Author! A Journey of Literary Heroes. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I loved putting it all together. And there's even a neat twist at the end!
Blogger offer a page view called dynamic, which is what I've used for the makeover. You, as the reader, have the ability through the dropped down menu on the left to view it anyway you'd like, an interesting feature, but the main view is Magazine.

Happy viewing!

cute town - I'm sure there must be a cabin with my name

CAMPAIGN USA - Follow up

The official campaign has concluded but the follow up continues. Such is the nature of publicity. All sorts of good things for HEARTLAND are in the wind and time will tell where this trail on the journey will lead. I hope to be able to report on where you will be able to find HEARTLAND reviews and promotions in the coming weeks.

Fly away Blackbird, this is Osgood Pie!

Just yesterday I posted another culinary adventure on Blackbird Pie - the Osgood Pie. Can I tempt you? Sweet, scrumptious, packed with pecans and raisins, and with a solid tradition going back many, many generations, my humble efforts were gobbled up before the pie was even cold.

Here is the link to take you directly to Blackbird Pie, where yesterday in the kitchen the Osgood was the pie of the moment.

Blackbird Pie

Kettle's on !

'Osgood Pie is one of those recipes that has been around since long before anyone can remember. And according to my research, some folks think it turns up most often in Texas cookbooks, but I haven't gone through a whole bunch of Texas cookbooks looking for it, so I'm just spreading folklore here. Speaking of folklore, the Osgood Pie could have got its unusual name three ways...'

New Look News Page!

If you have made it to here, chances are you will have noticed that my News page has just been updated. The page is more like a directory than a page of news, I guess, the point being that for me it's important to able to keep you up-to-date with everything that's going on, and although it's inevitable that at some point I will unavoidably be reliant on a web technician to update my website, I really prefer that where it can be prevented it not be a constant occurrence. Now, that was a mouthful to simply say I just want to be in control of my news page! And I love the immediacy as well as the conversational feel of this new arrangement.

So Over the Wire will keep you updated with regular news; join me on Terri's Blog for guest blogs, topics, thoughts & ideas, the album (which will have more added to it as time goes by), and all my reviews get posted there as well; In the Media page tracks the progress of my books (and me!) in print, over the airwaves and online; Blackbird Pie continues to be all about food from the Legends' era.

I hope you enjoy cruising around the News page features; there's more... click on the ad for eBooks and be taken to the General Store where you can purchase ebooks direct from my website for a fabulous introductory price. Seicento is another project I'm working on... it will be a little while till it comes online but not too much longer I hope.

I believe I mentioned at the beginning of the year that 2012 was going to be big for Tank & Ferry Entertainment!

There are plans for travel, location research, lots of writing and publishing, and a major book fair! 2012 is the year to get out there and be amongst it. And through my new News page I hope to take you along for the ride.

CAMPAIGN USA - Week Four

Monday, March 5 2012 : As we enter the final 'official' week of the campaign there has been lots of activity from regional publications, particularly Wyoming, which is very welcome considering, as readers would know, most of the Legends series is set in Wyoming. This week there will be focus on blog sites which are becoming so important now to writers. The world is changing at such a rapid pace! And those changes jostle for the coveted position of most popular; within those changes comes that cementing of what's to be the new norm, followed by the inevitable evolution of that into something else. I will be thrilled with whatever eventuates from this campaign. It is such a privilege to write and to be read.

My Guest on Terri's Blog for February

I warmly welcome my guest blogger this month, Louise Metcalf (MAPS, COP). There is a great deal of ongoing debate about the sustainability of our planet. Louise, awarded the honor of one of the top 100 sustainability leaders in the world in 2011, is a dedicated and passionate scientist. She is also a writer of apocalyptic fiction, the flipside to her life's work. She is best placed to know 'what happens if we fail?' I recommend her blog to everyone.

LATEST Empire For Liberty REVIEW

A great review makes not only your day, your week and your year, but affirms all your hard work and reassures you that readers will love what they find between the front and back covers. Here is the latest review for Empire for Liberty:

Book Review
By Rama Gaind
PS News Books
Empire for Liberty
By Terri Sedmak (Vivid Publishing, $34.95, softcover, 486 pages)

If captivating historical fiction—and a family saga at that— is your preference, then this second book in the Liberty & Property Legends series will nicely fit the bill.

Terri Sedmak has again produced a sequel that is rich with characters, where we get the chance to observe the best and worst of humanity, a narrative that’s warmed with humour and romance.
However, it will make for a more enjoyable experience if you read the prequel Heartland: On the Side of Angels.

The second instalment continues the story of Luke Taylor’s journey for justice, introducing intriguing and impertinent lively new characters who shed light on the darkness surrounding betrayal and murder.

Set in Cheyenne, Wyoming, 1885, the narrative sets a fast pace.
In the State Penitentiary in Colorado, prisoner Five One Three serving a life sentence is in poor health. Laramie County Sheriff, Cliff, has trouble extracting pertinent information from him.

All the while, Cliff himself is surrounded by controversy with rumours circulating that he and prosecutor, Cam Faraday, have conspired to hide evidence. Disturbing consequences result after motivated journalist Emmaline Roberts is given the task of investigating these claims.

Each chapter tells the story through the eyes of a different ‘person’, well developed – just like in the first. It’s easy to get immersed in the vibrant history, walking along with the individuals, having to remind yourself that they are only fictional. As you are swept into the lives of an engaging Cliff and a feisty Emmaline, you start caring for the characters.

Another emotional rollercoaster is assured with Empire for Liberty, a second instalment in a six-part series.

This Australian author certainly knows how to paint a vivid picture!

Edition 257, 8 February 2012

AND NOW… secrets from the vault of Volume Three!

The story behind the legend… more of Red Sky and Ethan’s extraordinary personal story will be revealed.
On the Seal, the representation for Volume Three is a rose.
Relationships, old and new, are about to get even more complicated and dangerous. And we’re headed for the Mile High City for some dedicated Bodecker-hunting.
An audacious new romance with a startling revelation…
… and so much more!
The vault is now sealed until release date!

A FINE ROMANCE…

This year Tank & Ferry Entertainment is aiming to release its first novel under its new imprint Medicine Bow Romance.
With all the work that goes on here at T & FE HQ, you’d be forgiven for asking who has time to pen romances as well as The Liberty & Property Legends? That being said, the first novel in this series, titled The Storyteller of Feather Ridge, is in the final draft stage, so a 2012 publication date is envisioned.
At this stage T & FE haven’t confirmed if the novel will be published as a paperback or an eBook or both. The question is, will it push back the late-2012 release of Volume Three of The Legends? It is not expected to at this stage. But anything can (and does) happen in the world of the independent author and the self-publishing game. It promises to be an exciting year!

HEARTLAND: Publicity Campaign in the U.S.

Tank & I are very excited about our new publicity campaign.
Beginning in mid-February, HEARTLAND On the Side of Angels will be formally presented to the U.S. media by Smith Publicity, Inc.
Some readers may have already seen our Facebook ad for HEARTLAND which appeared earlier in 2011. This campaign will be a huge step and something we have been looking forward to even before our Aussie campaigns, which ended in December. We certainly learnt much more than I can say from those; invaluable preparation for the next stage of campaigning, in the U.S.
